Dear P.A.M.P.A. Families,
You may have heard that a newer version of Prevnar (PCV-7) , which is named Prevnar 13 or PCV-13 is now available and is being offered in our offices. This updated vaccine protects against six additional types of pneumococcal germs that the older version did not. If your child is 1 year of age and younger, the updated vaccine will be used to complete the normal vaccine schedule. If your child is over one year but not yet 5 years of age, a booster dose of the updated vaccine is recommended to provide maximum protection. This may be done at an upcoming office visit, when appropriate.
